President Trump announced Monday that anyone who reports voter fraud, in past elections or in the upcoming midterms, will be paid $1 million once the people responsible are arrested and convicted. The offer landed on Truth Social eight days before voters go to the polls on Nov. 3.
The post, as quoted by The Gateway Pundit and ABC News, read: "Anybody reporting Voter Fraud in the past Elections, or the upcoming 2026 Midterm Election, will be paid $1,000,000 upon the arrest and conviction of those that created the Fraud!" The original post was not available to this reporter, so the wording comes from those two outlets.
What the post did not say is where the money comes from, which agency would hand it out, or how a tipster would collect. Those gaps matter. A reward with a conviction requirement is only as real as the machinery behind it, and none has been shown so far.
Plenty of Promise, Few Particulars
Trump repeated the offer to reporters later in the day. The Gateway Pundit, citing a clip posted by @RapidResponse47, quoted him saying, "I'm also going to be issuing a million dollar bonus or reward or whatever you want to call it."
ABC News reported that the White House offered no further details when asked. NBC News, in a live blog, reportedly said a White House spokesperson referred questions back to the post; that account is based on a search excerpt of the page, which could not be opened in full. No executive order, Justice Department guidance or funding announcement was found. It remains unclear whether the reward covers state prosecutions, federal ones or both, what evidence a tip would need, and whether this is a formal government program or a presidential statement of intent.
The announcement came the same day Trump was reportedly campaigning in Mississippi for Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, according to the title of NBC's live blog.
Part of a Broader Push
The million-dollar offer is not the administration's only election-integrity move this fall. ABC News reported that last week Trump announced a separate fraud whistleblower program that would pay tipsters 1 percent of money the government recovers, with Trump saying he would decide who gets paid. Other reports on that program carry different payout figures, and those details have not been confirmed. A Yahoo report, which was only partly reviewed, links it to Vice President JD Vance's Task Force to Eliminate Fraud.
The Gateway Pundit reported that the Justice Department began notifying counties last week about election monitoring, and that Harmeet Dhillon, who heads the department's Civil Rights Division, said 1,000 observers will deploy nationwide in November. The outlet also said the reward followed a call from Wayne Root for a whistleblower fund paying $1 million each to the first 100 Democrats who come forward about the 2020 election. Those details come from Gateway alone and have not been confirmed elsewhere.
Trump has also been pushing the SAVE America Act, which would require voter ID and proof of citizenship to register, ABC News noted.
The Texas Precedent
There is a precedent. In November 2020, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick offered up to $1 million from his campaign funds for fraud tips, with at least $25,000 per conviction. His first payout, in 2021, went to Eric Frank, a Pennsylvania poll worker whose tip led to the conviction of a Republican who had voted twice, according to Raw Story, citing the Dallas Morning News. That account was not checked against the original Dallas Morning News report. Raw Story quoted Frank as saying of Patrick's program, "This kind of blew up in their face."
On the question of fraud itself, NBC News stated that "There is no evidence of widespread voter fraud in U.S. elections," and ABC described Trump's earlier claims as unfounded. The Gateway Pundit's account presents the offer favorably and does not address that point.
What Comes Next
The questions now are practical ones. Watch for the White House or the Justice Department to name an agency, a funding source and a process for submitting tips, or for the offer to remain a post and a sound bite. Democratic and legal reaction may follow, as may the Justice Department's monitoring and any challenges filed once the votes are counted.
