Three brothers known in the luxury real estate world and the nightclub circuits of New York and Miami will each spend 30 years in federal prison. Alon, Oren and Tal Alexander were sentenced Tuesday in Manhattan for a sex-trafficking conspiracy that a jury found involved drugging and raping women. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York announced the sentences.
U.S. District Judge Valerie Caproni addressed the brothers directly. "Your conduct was monstrous," she told them, according to Just the News, which also reported her saying, "Your crimes wreaked havoc on their lives."
The defense asked for no more than 15 years each, and prosecutors asked for life. The judge's sentence is twice the defense maximum.
The Verdict and the Record
A jury convicted the brothers in March after a five-week trial. Courthouse News reported that 11 women testified and that the brothers did not take the stand. According to that outlet, the charged conduct ran from 2009 to 2017. Fox News reported, in material available to us only through its page metadata, that the convictions covered sex trafficking, rape and sexual assault, and that prosecutors described a scheme involving dozens of women. We have not been able to read the full Fox article.
Outlets disagree on how many counts the jury returned. Yahoo reported 10 and NewsNation reported 19. We could not confirm the count, and it should be checked against the SDNY release or the court docket. Courthouse News described the verdict as a conviction on all counts.
The federal release says the victims included "women and minors." It ties Oren's counts to Victims 2 and 7 and Minor Victim-8, and Tal's counts to Victims 1, 2 and 6 and Minor Victim-3. Courthouse News reported that Caproni pointed to trial evidence of Alon boasting about a 17-year-old. Just the News reported that prosecutors allege the sexual violence began when the brothers were high schoolers in Miami. Yahoo reported that a prosecution sentencing memo cited more than 70 women alleging abuse.
A Courtroom Full of Victims
Eleven women spoke at the sentencing, and prosecutors read a statement from a twelfth, according to the New York Times as relayed by Just the News. Most asked the judge for life sentences. One woman, speaking under the pseudonym Maya Miller, said, "Tal Alexander raped me," and described an assault in a shower in the Hamptons in 2014. That date comes from her account, and we have not matched it against the specific counts of conviction.
The brothers deny wrongdoing. "My brothers and I have never drugged or raped anyone," Oren told the court, as reported by Courthouse News. Alon and Oren have also said they passed polygraph tests. That claim is theirs alone.
Beyond the prison terms, each brother received 10 years of supervised release. Alon and Oren were fined $300,000 apiece, and Tal was fined $350,000. NewsNation reported that the probation office had recommended 15 years per victim, which would have meant 180 years for Alon and Tal and 195 for Oren. The mandatory minimum is 15 years.
Who the Brothers Are
Just the News reported that Oren and Tal sold million-dollar homes in Manhattan and frequented New York and Miami nightlife with Oren's twin, Alon. CBS reported that Alon and Oren, who are twins, were nicknamed "The A Team," and that Tal was an executive at the family's security firm. The SDNY release lists Oren, 39, and Tal, 40, as being from Miami.
Just the News also reported that two civil suits in 2024 accused the twins of rape, and that more women then came forward. It reported that the brothers were arrested in Miami in December of that year; we have not confirmed that detail elsewhere. U.S. Attorney Jamie McDonald announced the sentences alongside the FBI's New York chief, James C. Barnacle Jr., and NYPD Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch.
What Comes Next
All three brothers are expected to appeal. Yahoo reported that Caproni will ask the Bureau of Prisons to consult experts on whether the brothers should be housed together. About two dozen civil suits are still pending against them.
