The FBI issued a bulletin Monday warning there could be armed protests at capitols in all 50 states in the days leading up to Inauguration Day.
An ABC News report said the bureau has also received information in recent days on a group calling for the storming of state, local and federal courts and buildings should President Donald Trump be removed from office before Joe Biden’s inaugural on Jan. 20. The same group has plans to storm government offices regardless of whether Trump is removed on the day of the inauguration. Of no consequence, it seems, is whether the states certified electoral votes for Biden or Trump.
“The FBI received information about an identified armed group intending to travel to Washington, DC on 16 January,” the bulletin read. “They have warned that if Congress attempts to remove POTUS via the 25th Amendment, a huge uprising will occur.”
Federal law enforcement officials have advised police agencies to increase their security posture at statehouses around the country following the riot at the U.S. Capitol, law enforcement sources told ABC News.
Following the violent and ultimately deadly pro-Trump breach of the U.S. Capitol last Wednesday, Democratic lawmakers in the House on Monday pushed efforts to get Vice President Mike Pence and the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment, which would declare Trump incapable of performing his duties and have Pence serve as acting president until Jan. 20.
After the measure was blocked, House Dems rolled out an article of impeachment accusing Trump of “incitement of insurrection.”
